Ariza, C. 2007. "Serial RSS Sound Installation as Open Work: The babelcast." In Proceedings of the International Computer Music Conference. San Francisco: International Computer Music Association. 1: 275-278. Internet: http://www.flexatone.net/ docs/ srsiowb.pdf abstract

Using Umberto Eco's notion of the open work as a point of departure, this paper describes the context and technologies of the babelcast. The historical and theoretical context is first introduced. A brief description of two key technologies, athenaCL and RSS media syndication, follow. The various formats of the babelcast are described. Finally, the production process of the babelcast, employing Python, athenaCL, Csound, and FFmpeg, is detailed.
