| Composing Musical Structures within a Web-Browser: A Guide to Envl.net | ||

The envl.net system requires non-real-time musical generation. Thus, each time the Submit button is pressed, envl.net generates a new musical output. Non-real-time generation permits the creation of complex and non-linear musical structures. The user may acumulate numerous MIDI files working with envl.net.
The envl.net system does not save the configuration settings of a tool. Thus, closing a window or a tab, or moving to a different web-page from a configured envl.net page, may result in lost settings. An envl.net session can be resumed at a later time be either saving the athenaCL XML file and loading this file into athenaCL, or be storing (via a screenshot or other method) the exact interface settings used. Multiple envl.net windows can be opened and used simultaneously.
Most settings for envl.net tools will produce unique outputs upon each generation. Even the same tool with the same settings will often produce countless unique outputs. For this reason it is important to store and manage MIDI files that have desirable content.
In most cases, the output of a single tool will not be sufficient as a complete piece of music. Combining and editing multiple outputs from envl.net tools is likely to produce interesting results. Using a virtual instrument to render digital audio from envl.net-generated MIDI data, and then processing this digital audio with various tools, may also offer creative opportunities.
